Everything You Need To Know About Getting from the Vegas Airport to the Strip

Las Vegas from an Airplane
Most visitors to Las Vegas come for one reason: to see the nightlife on the Strip. Part of South Las Vegas Boulevard, The Las Vegas Strip is roughly 4.2 miles long and sits right below the Las Vegas city limits in the towns of Winchester and Paradise. Most of the large resorts and casinos are located on the Strip, which is also crammed with restaurants and other entertainment options. The lights never go out on the Strip!

If you are coming to Vegas, you probably have questions about how to get around, including which is the least expensive option. We’ve provided the information you are looking for below.

Can Uber Pick Me up at Las Vegas Airport?

Yes. For a while, Uber was prohibited from operating at McCarran Airport. However, all that changed around October 2015. You can now use Uber or Lyft to pick you up once you land at the airport. When you open your app, remember to select the terminal you landed at and head to the appropriate pick up location, which is typically a parking garage. Uber and Lyft are still not allowed to pick you up curbside, but the short trip to the parking garage should be manageable for most people.

Is Uber Cheaper than a Taxi in Las Vegas?

Calling Uber in Las Vegas
Yes, taking an Uber is cheaper than riding in Vegas taxis. We have found that it costs roughly $10 to get to the Strip and around $15 to be taken to downtown Las Vegas. The cost of a taxi ride is roughly double that, so Uber is an excellent choice for the budget-savvy consumer.

Which Vegas Hotels Have Airport Shuttle Service?

According to Trip Advisor, 49 Las Vegas hotels have a shuttle (as of March 2020). Some of the more popular include:

  • Palms Place Hotel and Spa
  • The Berkley, Las Vegas
  • Bally’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino

  • $2.76 per mile

Is there a Free Shuttle to the Las Vegas Strip?

Yes, there are free shuttles that go to the Las Vegas Strip. They operate on a first come, first served basis, so you should plan accordingly. If they fill up with people, then you will be out of luck and will have to spring for the cost of a taxi.

Sam’s Town shuttle is one option that provides free trips from hotels to downtown Las Vegas and the Strip. You should check with your bell desk for the pickup and drop off times.

Another option is Gold Coast Shuttle, which runs to The Orleans Hotel & Casino as well as to the Strip. It runs 7 days a week from 9:00 am to 12:30 am and makes a pick-up every 30-45 minutes. The last shuttle leaves the Strip at 12:30 am, so plan accordingly. If the last shuttle is full, you’ll need to get a cab or rideshare.

Is there a Free Shuttle from Las Vegas Airport to Hotels?

Your hotel should run a shuttle to and from the airport. You should check with your hotel to check whether it offers a complimentary shuttle.

Can I walk from the Las Vegas Airport to the Strip?

You can. Depending on where you are headed, the walk will be 2-3 miles, typically. There are good sidewalks that run the entire way, so you should be able to roll a carry case with you.

Of course, this is a long haul for many people. It can take 30-40 minutes to walk the entire way. You also need to consider where you are headed to on the Strip, which itself is over 4 miles long. It makes little sense to walk 7 miles and be exhausted when you could pay for an Uber or cab.

Do You Tip Airport Taxi Drivers?

Yes. It is expected, and drivers make most of their money on tips. Typically, you should tip around 10-15%. If your fare is $20, then tip $2-3. Of course, if you believe the service is substandard—or the cab was a smelly mess—then you might withhold a tip and tell the driver why.

Is it Safe to Walk the Vegas Strip at Night?

The Strip is generally safe because there are so many people out at night. There is also a strong police presence along with security cameras, because visitors to The Strip account for so much economic activity. If crime got out of control, then people would stop coming to the area, hurting everyone economically.

However, it is always best to be smart. Stay with your group and remain aware of your surroundings. Never follow someone you don’t know to a hotel or to a location off the Strip.

How Long is the Vegas Strip Walking?

The Strip is roughly 4.2 miles long. If you walk a mile in 15 minutes, it can take a full hour to walk from one end to the other, probably longer for rest breaks. Is there a Shuttle from Las Vegas Airport to the Strip?

Does the Las Vegas Monorail Go to the Airport?

No. The monorail was designed to travel to the airport but was never completed. Low ridership sunk the project, and we do not expect the Monorail to connect with the airport any time soon.
