Zip Code Where Most Accidents in Las Vegas Are (And Why)

Motor vehicle accidents are among the leading causes of serious injuries nationwide. According to data provided by the Association for Safe International Road Travel (ASIRT), approximately 4.4 million Americans are injured in traffic collisions each year. While car crashes impact every community in Las Vegas, there are some areas that see an especially high number of collisions.

If you’re wondering about safety issues around Vegas, you may have questions about where the most car accidents occur by zip code. At Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers Las Vegas, we are committed to providing information and working for safer highways. In this article, our Las Vegas car accident attorneys highlight the zip codes where the most collisions occur in Clark County, NV and explain why.

Clark County, Nevada is Covered By 89 Zip Codes

Simply defined a zip code is a postal code used by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to sort deliveries and identify certain areas. The current system was introduced in 1963. The term ‘zip’ is an acronym for ‘Zone Improvement Plan.’ For reference, there are 254 zip codes in Nevada. There are an average of 8,500 people per zip code, but not all zip codes cover the same amount of people.

As of June of 2021, Clark County, NV is covered by a total of 89 different zip codes. The majority of those zip codes are entirely contained within the Las Vegas city limits or are at least partially within the Las Vegas city limits. Though, some zip in Clark County cover other jurisdictions, including North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, and Mesquite.

An Overview of the High-Risk Zip Codes for Car Accidents in the Las Vegas Area

Vegas Police
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) does not publish comprehensive data on car crashes broken down by zip code. That being said, the police department does put out neighborhood data—so we can tell which areas see the highest number of car accidents. Here are some of the zip codes in Southern Nevada that see far more than their fair share of traffic collisions:

  • 89101 & 89102 (Downtown Las Vegas): Bordering each other, zip codes 89101 and 89102 cover the majority of Downtown Las Vegas. According to data collected by the LVMDP, these two zip codes see the highest number of total car accidents in the city of Las Vegas. There are a number of different reasons for this. To start, these areas see high traffic volume. The streets in Downtown Vegas are often packed with traffic. Additionally, the LVMPD believes that certain risky behaviors, including drunk driving, occur at a higher rate in Downtown Vegas than in other sections of the city. If you are driving in 89101 or 89102 (Downtown Vegas), be sure to take some additional safety precautions.
  • 89109 (The Vegas Strip): The area just northwest of Paradise, NV is covered by zip code number 89109. You probably know this section of the city by another name: The Las Vegas Strip. The Vegas Strip is another high risk zone for car accidents. When adjusted for the number of people who actually live in the zip code on a full-time basis, 89109 may see the highest rate of traffic collisions in all of Clark County. Notably, one of the biggest traffic safety issues on the Vegas Strip is pedestrian collisions. The Strip is loaded with pedestrians—many of whom are visiting the area and are simply not familiar with the traffic patterns in the city. Whether you are driving or walking on the Vegas Strip, make sure you pay extra attention to pedestrian safety.
  • 89146 (Las Vegas): Zip code number 89146 covers a relatively unknown section of Vegas that stretches into the unincorporated town of Spring Valley. You will find the College of Southern Nevada Charleston Campus in this section of the city. Notably, this zip code is also home to W Oakey Blvd & S Jones Blvd—one of our city’s most notorious dangerous intersections. The intersection makes this zip code an unusually high risk area for car accidents. Dangerous intersections, especially where highways cross through residential areas, see more than their fair share of car accidents. If you were involved in a crash at an intersection, call a personal injury attorney for immediate help with your case.
  • 89030 (North Las Vegas): Finally, one of the most dangerous, high risk zip codes for drivers in Southern Nevada is 89030. Technically, this zip code covers a wide section of North Las Vegas, not Las Vegas proper. According to data cited by KTNV Las Vegas, motorists who live in the 89030 zip code pay the highest auto insurance rates in the entire region. While there are several reasons for that, one of the primary reasons is that this zip code sees an unusually high number of car accidents. There are multiple highways and dangerous roadways stretching throughout the City of North Las Vegas. If you were injured in a crash in North Las Vegas, the Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers Las Vegas can help.

Of course, car accidents vary widely in their nature, cause, and level of severity. Unfortunately, Vegas has seen its fair share of deadly accidents in recent years. If you or your loved one was involved in a catastrophic collision, it is imperative that you seek immediate medical care and consult with an attorney. Your lawyer will protect your rights and help you get justice.
