In order to obtain a motorcycle license, Nevada law dictates specialized classes are a requirement. Those who want to operate a motorcycle have to go to and complete courses that pertain to riding a motorcycle. These courses are similar to driver’s education courses which everyone who possesses a driver’s license has to successfully complete. Presumably, motorcycle education classes talk about and make operators aware of the inherent dangers in riding a motorcycle. Having a healthy appreciation of this may go a long way in motorcycle operator safety. However, even knowing the dangers may not be enough to prevent an accident.
A motorcycle accident occurred in Las Vegas recently that resulted in the death of the motorcyclist. The accident happened when a southbound pickup truck was attempting to make a left-hand turn. At the same time the westbound motorcycle operator was approaching the same intersection. The pickup truck and the motorcyclist collided and the person on the motorbike was thrown from the bike. The motorcycle accident victim was taken to the hospital but later died as a result of his injuries. Both the driver of the pickup truck and his passenger only suffered minor injuries.
Finding fault in accidents of this kind may prove difficult especially if a party to the accident is killed in the accident. Just because someone is killed in a roadway collision does not mean that the other party is automatically at fault. In an intersection collision, the question of which vehicle had the right of way is usually critical.
When a fatal accident occurs, police generally conduct a detailed accident investigation and prepare a report. If there is evidence that one party’s negligence caused injury or death to another party, the injured party or the family of the decedent may have the right to file a civil lawsuit against the negligent driver.
