Drivers in Las Vegas must always be aware of other drivers on the road to avoid serious injury in an auto accident. Car accidents occur when least expected and are often the result of careless, inexperienced drivers or those who have chosen to drive under the influence. Auto accidents can result in fatalities or serious injuries, along with high medical expenses and severe changes to the lives of the victims.
A 17-year-old male driver is accused of going through a red light, and crashing into another vehicle, leading to the death of a 42-year-old woman. The crash seriously injured her two passengers, an 18-year-old man and 16-year-old girl. According to witnesses, the 17-year-old was driving a pickup truck when he went through the light and crashed into the driver’s side of a Ford Mustang. Upon impact, the Mustang then crashed into another vehicle. The boy driving the pickup truck was not injured, nor was the driver of the third car. The driver of the Mustang was declared dead at the site of the accident.
When there is an auto accident with a fatality and serious injuries, the insurance company will contact the victims and their families to settle the case as quickly as possible. While they may sound concerned about the state of the victims and make a settlement offer that sounds reasonable, it might not be enough to cover the medical expenses, lost wages and emotional toll that the injuries or death caused. It may seem easier to take the settlement and get it over with, but victims of an auto accident often do not realize the severity of their injuries. The insurance company is interested in keeping their costs low, not in the well-being of the victims and their families. The amount of damage inflicted on the victims must be considered before accepting a settlement offered by the insurance company in the immediate aftermath of the accident.
In this case, a woman is dead and two young people were seriously injured because a 17-year-old allegedly ignored traffic laws, and went through a red light. People who have been hurt or lost a loved one because of an incident, such as this, are advised to discuss the matter with an attorney before accepting an insurance payout.
