Auto accidents are an unfortunate part of driving and come in a variety of different levels. At one end, the accident may be a fender-bender and cause relatively low injuries and damages. At the other end, the accident may result in serious injury, possibly even death. The latter type of accident can change the lives of the individuals involved forever.
In Silver Springs, Nevada, a man was involved in a car accident and died as a result of his injuries. The man driving the car was struck by a pickup truck when he attempted to enter the southbound lane of 95A. It was reported that the pickup truck driver attempted to avoid the accident but ending up pushing the car off the roadway. The man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene; the truck driver received only minor injuries.
Deadly car accidents leave a lot of unanswered questions for the authorities who must investigate. The police ultimately must determine how the accident occurred and which party was at fault. Once fault is assessed, a lawsuit may be the next step. Depending on the facts and circumstances of the case, the injured party may file a lawsuit, asking the court for damages.
Damages may be in the form of compensatory or punitive damages. Compensatory damages are meant to compensate the victim or the victim’s family for things such as lost wages and medical expenses. The purpose of punitive damages is to punish the transgressor. Pain and suffering is usually classified as punitive damages.
