At the intersection of Durango Drive and Summerlin Parkway, a police officer was struck on May 8 while making a turn. The male officer was thrown from his motorcycle and crashed onto the pavement. The driver of the car that hit the officer lost control of the vehicle, which careened down the road and finally came to rest on the center median.

The driver did not suffer any serious injuries and it was reported that the driver did get out of the vehicle and attempt to assist the wounded officer. Early reports did not state what the cause of the accident was, nor did they mention if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.Though many facts are unclear in this particular incident, if a negligent driver strikes and injures another person, the liability would fall on the driver for the injuries caused. ]]>On Thursday, April 4, an 81-year-old man was struck by a bus as the man attempted to cross the road. Even more heart wrenching, the elderly man was in a motorized wheelchair at the time. He was apparently crossing in a legally marked crosswalk. The man was pronounced dead after being rushed to a hospital with serious injuries. Fortunately, the bus was empty at the time and there were no injured children.
]]> Residents in the area surrounded the intersection of Reno and Maryland Parkway where the school bus accident occurred. Witnesses stated that the intersection is dangerous and steps must be taken to improve the situation. Pedestrian deaths are on a record increasing pace throughout the Metro area with 36 people killed already this year.All drivers should take care while navigating Las Vegas roads. Under the law, bus drivers are held to an even higher standard. This makes sense considering the fact that a negligent bus driver could cause harm to a greater number of passengers than a standard vehicle driver. If negligence is the cause meaning that the bus driver did not uphold his or her duty, injured parties have the right to file a personal injury claim and seek monetary compensation for their injuries.

]]>A recent semi truck accident in Las Vegas left one teenager dead. The 17-year-old Las Vegas teen was killed when the truck crossed Spring Mountain Road and made a right-hand turn. Authorities say the accident occurred around 5 p.m. and that the teen was using the crosswalk to cross Spring Mountain Road at the time of the crash. The rear truck tires ran him over.
]]> The young boy was transported to a local hospital and listed in critical condition but he later died. The driver of the semi stayed at the scene of the accident and did not seek medical help because he suffered no injuries in the crash.The teen's death is the 34th death related to traffic just this year in the Las Vegas area.
The families of the victims of these traffic deaths do have an avenue to recover compensation for their loss, especially if negligence led to the traffic accident and death. In this case, there is no word yet on whether the truck driver negligently caused the boy's death but an investigation into the incident should reveal factors that may have contributed to the accident, like an inattentive truck driver or excessive speed.

A lawsuit has been brought in a court in Louisiana by the elderly man and his wife against the grocery store in connection to these allegations. Reportedly, this lawsuit is asking for damages. It will be interesting to see what ultimately happens in this case.
